Found on an island outside Ketchikan. It is thought to be 120 years old or older.

114 years old. This is the oldest Tlingit totem at this village. It is maintained by the tribe.

I love the totem poles. They are my most favorite memories from my great aunt's trip to Alaska. We used to go through her old slides about once a year after her many trips and these take me back to those days. The first one is fabulous!

Thanks all. Totems are written history from a culture that had no ability to write because they didn't know how to and each one tells a clan history. The problem is only a few people know what they mean. You find them down the entire west coast of Alaska, Canada, Washington, and Oregon. I'm not sure if the Indians around Calif. made them or not. You folks on the east coast would know if the were made there or not.
