I thought I had posted these. Im about 100 pics behind. This is Ringwood Mansion built in 1876. It was once owned by Barnabus Gibson came to Whitby in 1871 and established himself as a contractor during the railway boom. After a number of prosperous years, a decline in railway construction forced him to mortgage the house, and in 1897, the bank foreclosed on it. Over the years numorous people have owned till recently It was distroyed by vandals who set fire to the interior, even tho it was scheduled to be rebuilt.

Seeing your pictures like this always makes me wish I was a little more adventurous about going to find places and be brave enough to get out of the car to check them out!

dude, are these architectural gems just left to deteriorate? does your region have historical preservation programs that target these structures for saving? is it just RR property that seems neglected? owned by gov't, private owners?
wonderful work Carl...maybe you could start something going to protect them from certain structural failure with documentation.
edit: just looked at these again and saw the roof condition....oh well.

... looks like somebody doesn't care too much for Lucy!!
What a shame that that home was allowed to get into that shape and then burned!

We do have some sort of program like that here. They have saved a lot of buildings, and others they declare them Historical Buildings. I have heard with the budjet for this project, the moving or preserving can get pretty costly. Like the Guild Inn. It has been since 2001 that is shut down, and they are still peeing around with it. But in the meantime, it has been vandalized, and one building lost to fire.
Some of the old buildings are being moved, to a safer location, but I hope this one can follow the others. Would be a shame to see some kids get in and burn it down.
I just heard on the radio last week, they caught two teenagers that distroyed a pioneer cemetery. Annoys the crap out of me that, these stones can survive 200 years, only to have some punks ruin them..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Those vandals should be beaten with a sack of doorknobs. Very sad condition but nice shots.

I know eh. All that carved molding and railing are gone. That front porch has been smashed to bits. I have more from this place I still have to go over.
