I did not have any time this weekend to travle to any good subjects so I shot this gull off my pier. Nothing special but figured I would post.

I tried taking a shot of a gull yesterday and it was terrible :D

Wow, nice clear water off your pier...you can even see his foot.

Gulls are by far a crapy subject if you ask me. Nothing special about them but they are tricky. You hve to spot meter on their gray spots to get the shot to come out ok.

Nice, I like gulls as they are good target practice for flying shots. :)

Get under one at the wrong time and you will see just how crappy they are.

Here they are a protected bird because of the garbage they eat. Not sure if that's a nation wide thing or not.

I refer to gulls as $hirt Birds. They are however as you mention, "protected" nationally. It's a good thing, they are like flying rats as Jon said. They clean up just as turkey vulchers do as well. All part of our eco system. Sorta like how the Maryland Crabs clean the bay. For dinner, they get to eat all the fish guts I toss over after I filet my rockfish up.
