hey all... im back from a stunnning trip to the camel trading desert festival (aka the pushkar fair)... wow! loved every second of it... so many sights and sounds.. and visuals!!! it was overwhelming... needed a few more days but had a prior commitment to shoot this morning...

here's a bit about this fair:

The Pushkar Fair, or Pushkar ka Mela, is the world's largest camel fair held in the holy town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. The Pushkar fair is indubitably the world's largest camel fair (and indeed, world's largest cattle fair in general). Competitions such as the "matka phod", "moustache", and "bridal competition" are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists. The number of foreign tourists eager to witness this exotic event has been on the constant rise.Thousands of people go to the banks of the Pushkar Lake where the fair takes place. Men buy and sell their livestock, which includes camels, cows, sheep and goats. The women go to the stalls, full of bracelets, clothes, textiles and fabrics. A camel race starts off the festival, with music, songs and exhibitions to follow.

here's a few... looking forward to the comments :)

Very adorable kids... both girls are wearing the same necklace w/ different number of beads. Is there a significance to that?

I always love your people pictures!

You are so good with kids! There's never been a shot that didn't have a happy-faced child in it!

Nice work, Mansi!

Mansi,

You amaze as always. The fair sounds awesome...must put that on the list of things to do when I get to the subcontinent :)

I love the kid's hair in tihe first one...I've see folks in the Metro in DC who probably paid a lot of money for their to look like that

I love the expression and framing of the third pic, with his hands on his forehead. I think that one is my fave just for the way you cropped it.

Thanks for sharing, and I'd love to hear more about the fair!

hey linda... about the beads... well i know for a fact that the tribe they come from uses that as a religious accessory... but i have no clue as to whether the number of beads hold any significance...
i'll check it out :)

I soooo love your people shots!! And this series, of the children, is wonderful. I love the expressions you captured (and hairstyles!), and love the pose/compo in the third one. I hope you have MANY more pics to post from this trip. It sounds like an amazing experience.

Mansi, I compare your people shots to the passion I put into my aviation shots. I love your work and never get tired of looking at the images. They are so real and not done up. You bring out the best in your subjects and capture them so well.
