Michael grew up in Spanaway, Washington, graudated from Bethel High School in 1969, got drafted, in 1970 went to Viet Nam, and came back home in a flag drapped coffin a few months after he was in county.

He was the best friend of my wife's oldest brother and lived down the street from them. I didn't know him but he had 10 brothers and sisters and a mom and dad.

When my wife found his name on the wall today, told the stories of their growing up together, about his family, it was kind of like I got to know him a bit.

As I stood and looked at the wall I can't explain the feelings I felt. I still can't. When the daughter of a long dead soldier walked up to me and told me about her father I realized, for some the war just never ended.

What a powerful reminder of sacrifice.

I hope the photo is OK. I'm using my laptop and an old program and a really poor connection in our hotel room.

That's awesome OFG and the story really brings life to the image and name. I've seen the wall many times now and it never ceases to amaze me how many names there are - that each name is a life - and each life is significant!!

Thanks for sharing the story and the photo...

This brought to mind the video clip on the forum that woody posted...each and every one of them have families who will miss them forever. No bigger sacrifice could be made. Thanks for sharing this oldfireguy, it's good we are reminded to remember.
