Nice detail in his face and hands. I kinda like that he's against a dark background... adds to the mood. Nice!

it's an interesting shot, and I, too, like how the man seems to be suspended in nothingness as he contemplates the weight of the world.
But, I can't help but feel that you used the sharpen tool in PS a few too many times. There is something too...I'm not sure what...about it.
I'd like to see the original with just some contrast to it.

Thanks all, Jocose, no it is not over sharpened, but it is a small crop from a fairly large image, so that may give the impression, and it made a very good print, which for me is more important than processing for the web. There was quite a bit of work done to get the black background.

well captured Ernie.
cropping small segments from an original does produce an overshapened stark look and this is no exception. although, i kinda like the high key look...and i agree the background works well.
if you choose to soften it please share.
edit: i ran it through 'neat image' and the softening helps it a tad. :)
