View Full Version : Seizure...

I don't know if I ever said anything but I have Epilepsy as a result of 2 fractured skulls. (Long story) I have tried for years to 'photograph' them. I went off on a tangent and with the help of stacked filters, (thanks, Fred) and very slow shutter speed, zooming while the shutter is open, got these. These are how I feel, not what I see. Not quite what I'm looking for tho...

Color version for comparison...

Any questions, please ask.

Thanks, Dori

Sorry to hear you have to endure seizures. They are miserable to deal with. My uncle has the same problem from a life-threatening bicycle wreck he had when he was a child. Your images remind me of '60s psychedelia....no, not from personal experience. :)

Oh boy, another old hippie!

I see a lot of seizure patients at work, all age groups, and all types. The photos are interesting.

Dori, I had no idea that you dealt with head trauma daily. Your contributions to YPF are top notch and among the best of the best I've seen, how would I have ever known? Thanks for saying it 'cause it helps to boot me along. You sure don't spend time on the "why does it have to be this way" page of life!

I have a sister that deals with the aftermath of a car related head injury from 1981. she was in a coma for over a month and had a stroke while she was in that coma. She should be plenty angry because she was not the cause but she has to live with the effects...but she is not angry. She is just thankful and does so much for everyone she can..with a gleam in her eye and a little giggle. She's a hero in my book because she would not and will not, give up.

First off, thanks for your kind words...:grouphug:
I am one of the lucky ones, I don't have Grand Mals or Petit Mals. Just Simple Partials with the occasional Complex Partial thrown in. I am able to work, just not in the steel industry. (Wonder why...;)) I don't drive which is OK.
I have debated starting this thread for quite a while. I wear an ID bracelet and have had people practically run away when the hear what I have. Iv'e been dealing with this since '85 and have gotten used to it. Kathy, your sister is right, anger is very harmful.

'60's psychedelia...:lol::lol:

while only someone with this condition could know what you experience, i truly appreciate your openness and sharing, through imagery, the glimpse into your personal life. :friends:

and....being a product of the 60's, i identified immediately with Lisa's comment. :)

Dori, OMG...... I've seen images like this before too. My heart goes out to you hon, it's terrifying to experience seizures. You see, I had them too, from age 9 until age 35. I had brain surgery in Sept. 2000 and they discovered a tumor about the size of half a lemon. It was the cure and it saved my life. I'm guessing that because of the fractures that surgery wouldn't be an option for you? I'm so sorry, you captured at least part of what you were looking for cause when I looked at this I felt like I was having another flashback. Big Hugs to you Dori, if you want, you can write to me anytime you'd like. I understand.

I have no experience with Epilepsy but in a previous, chemically-fueled lifestyle, I believe I did experience some of what you're trying to convey.. I think the color version shows better the effect you were shooting for - more detail and contrast.. And, yeah, the old hippie reference kinda fits... some things never change..

Dori, thanks for sharing with us. I knew a girl back in Mississippi who had Grand Mals and she was my hairdresser! Why are some people so stupid as to be afraid of such things? It is nothing to be ashamed of! I admire and respect people who deal with things like this in their lives with a positive, enthusiastic attitude! There are so many much worse things that could be going on! After all, we can all handle anything in our lives with God and His help! Thank you for describing what it is like with your photos! You are special and I am so blessed to be able to call you my friend! :)

Unfortunately Judy people fear what they don't understand. Raising two disabled kids I face this everyday. I think they think its contagious.

Dori thanks for sharing your personal story and your wonderful images. :grouphug:

I understand Dori... very brave of you to share.
We all have our personal hurdles that we clear every day.
I am not ready to share mine just yet, but I am proud of you for not letting it stop you living your life!

I know you are right, Kristin! I once worked in the public schools with disabled kids and it's really sad how people perceive them. My very favorite were the emotionally disturbed! Most of them just needed to be loved!

Thank you Dori, maybe so but it is still a terrifying experience-I'm sure you feel that too. It always made me feel like something Evil was hurting me and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I hope & pray that they will find a cure one day, sooner than later, so you won't have to experience this any more. Big Hugs to you my friend. :)
