I took this photo a couple of years ago and could never figure out why there would be a chain on the door and a cement driveway up to it. When Carl posted his photo of the deadhouse I put two and two together and we have a deadhouse. This is in Spokane where the ground is frozen and under snow most of the winter.

That's my crazy wife looking in. I always wished something would have moved around in there.

Did you see Chiller's post? Take a look at it.

It's kind of sad with her on tip toes peering in. The chain makes it so unfriendly. Chiller's pic was cheerier but it was also in color. That helps set the mood.

I can bet you waited with camera in hand eh OFG.:lol: I would have thrown a small stone just to make the noise, and watch your wife shake a little.:lol:
Nice find OFG>

Okay, explain a deadhouse!
I have found 3 dead houses here. When the ground is too frozen to bury the dead, they were stored in a dead house, untill the ground thawed a bit. They were very popular in cemeteries around the late 1800s. They are no longer in use today, cause of the technology....heaters, machines, and stuff.
Inside a deadhouse, which are usually octagonal, there are shelves, in which the coffins were stored on.
There is a story of one place here that was a small church on a cemetery ground. They did not have a deadhouse, but the basement was so cold, they stored the coffins down there. So , back in the day, while a service was going on above, coffins with the deceased rested in the basement below.
Here is another little blurb on a dead house

Great shot Fred, OMG, can you imagine if a noise had come from that building, she would have jumped a mile in the air-I know I would ! I think I might go take a pic of one of the ones around here-every cemetary has one. :)

Yep, Teacher Randie would have jumped ... down OFG's throat ... if he'd tricked her like that!!! He'd have been on bologna for a week!!

The image, though, is perfect with her in it! It looks like she's missing her loved one and wanting, needing, to be near!
