1,280 pounds of handmade cedar boat. We just happen upon these folks who were converging on the Makaw Indian Reservation by canoe. There were teams from Alaska and the West coast who paddled their canoes here to the NW point of Washington. The Alaskans had been at it for months. Pretty Impressive to say the least.
These poor souls had just put their canoe back into the water when the Coast Guard shut the place down due to dangerous currents. They had to pack it up and take it down the road to more gentle waters. There were about 40 teams and on Thursday 6 canoes capsized so the CG was keeping a close eye on the events.
