Pine Bluff is the second oldest city in the state of Arkansas. I went to the downtown area to see it's courthouse and architecture. Sadly, most of it is run down. The growth of the town is out by the mall....imagine that. PB was once quite a thriving river and commerce town. Here are a few of the remains of old houses in disrepair and one that has been kept to it's heyday glory.

The Joseph W. Du Bocage House: He was born on St. Lucia island and came to AR to learn medicine. He ended up becoming a lawyer. Circa 1866.

The Roth-Rosenzwieg-Lambert House: Bronco Billy Anderson lived here in the late 1800s. Circa 1894.

The R.M. Knox House: Served in the 1st Mississippi Calvary Corp. He was said to have had two horses shot out from under him in battle, but never received an injury himself. He moved to PB and built this house some time after 1871. He had a mercantile business.

The Boone-Murphy House: This cottage was used by the Union Army as it's headquarters while in PB from 1863-1865.

The McEntire House: Circa 1908

Love photos of old homes. What stories they could tell. Hopefully, they will be saved and treasured throughout the years. Nicely done.

Beautiful old samples of American antebellum architecture... and the history too!!
Pity someone hasn't stepped up to restore and maintain most of them...

These are beautiful old homes. What a shame that someone hasn't kept them up! It always saddens me to see homes like this just sit and deteriorate! What a waste! TFS, Lisa!

I agree, it is sad to see the houses in shambles like that. If I had a lot more money and time on my hands, that would be a project I would love to take on! That second house looks in wonderful shape, its gorgeous! the last would be a lot of fun to tinker with!

Those are great and some wonderful history. It would be nice to see them rebuilt but I would guess it would be expensive to do.

It is sure sad to see those glorious and historic homes dissolving into the dust like that. Some of them look to be too far gone to save! :*(

Breaks my heart! Especially the last one with the house next door and across the street that look well-kept. :*(

I'd be checking out the tax office for info on these houses. Lots of forgotten history.

what a shame! architecture of this nature should never be left to ruin.
i'm surprised the civil war structure hasn't been adopted by some group...not good.

I agree. I was shocked at how little attention had been given to this house. What I hoped to be a great day seeing old architecture ended up being more depressing than anything. Truly a shame.

Sad to see such beautiful character homes go to ruin, hopefully one day someone will return them to their former glory.
