This is a tiny village east of Berlin in Brandenburg, very close to the Polish border, and somehow still today it looks like it once was East-Germany:

Conversion from a formerly coloured digital photo taken during our holidays in the area at the end of July/beginning of August of this year.

Thank you.
By the way, this place with its (for you I guess) unpronounceable name is also where the photos of my thread "This Old House" (http://www.yourphotoforum.com/showthread.php?t=32 ) were taken.

I love the feel of this picture...Kinda tranquil and soothing, the village appears to be well out of the rat race...
The Car...Is that a Trabant?
TFS,

Yes, you have seen this right.
While what few cars that went past this street had all been "western" models before, suddenly I heard this one puff-puffing nearer and I just HAD to grab my camera up again to take THIS scene.
I am now seeing that there is a satellite dish in the pic, THAT element, of course, is against suggesting it still looks like it did in East German times in Neulietzegöricke, but so did the nearest to the righthand frame of the pic in colour, too... and I am not suggesting this is an old pic, but the scene suddenly suggested it MIGHT look like the old times ;).

I like it. Wonderful tones, and the lone old car gives the shot an almost abandoned feel.

The place is quiet, but not abandoned. Actually, the entire village is listed these days. A good many houses are still waiting for restauration, among them the house that shows in my thread "This Old House", but eventually the entire village will be made up.
Here is a town map taken off Wikipedia:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/2/27/Neulietze_Ortsplan.jpg/180px-Neulietze_Ortsplan.jpg
You can see that the village is primarily houses to the left and the right of a street that forks open into two lanes while they go through the village and becomes one again at the end.
To show you whereabouts in Germany it is situated, here another map taken off Wikipedia:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/6/6c/Deutschland_Brandenburg_Neulietzeg%C3%B6ricke.png/140px-Deutschland_Brandenburg_Neulietzeg%C3%B6ricke.png
And this aerial view taken off the site www.oderbruchpavillion.de shows you what it looks like ... and my photo was taken on the part of street on the right heading north:
http://www.oderbruchpavillon.de/akteure/wilke/bilder/luftbild_2_nlg.jpg
I took MANY more pictures in Neulietzegöricke! I was totally SMITTEN by that village! (My family were dismayed ... "Ah, she must take ANOTHER photo, *groan*!") ;)

You were wise to do so, Corinna. I don't think the pic would have the same impact without the car. If I make it to Germania, will we be visiting here?

No... I'm afraid not. Compare the dots of where Wikipedia says Neulietzegöricke is and where Wikipedia shows my place:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/6/69/Karte_Lauenbrueck_in_Deutschland.png/140px-Karte_Lauenbrueck_in_Deutschland.png
The driving distance is about 6 hours, I'm afraid.
The circle north-east of my place and the other south-west of it are Hamburg and Bremen ... and when you look east (east is to the right, but never let my geography teacher hear me say this, he would have slapped the ruler over the backs of my hands for saying "right" instead of "east"!), you see another "circle", not too far from where the dot in the other map higher up indicates is this village. Well, that circle is Berlin.
And I cannot even take you to Berlin when you should come ... not within the one week that I am planning for you.

Yea, OK, so umm, clearly that did't work so well...basically I was just saying that the dream is to quit my job and head over to Europe and bum around until the money runs out....
I think we might need to start the mistranslation thread up again...wanna play?
